Work Record 6
For this shoot, I wanted to take photos of fairy lights in a clear glass jar to portray Artificial Light in a slightly different way to what I have done before. This shoot could end up making the lights like different due to being reflected through the glass weirdly.
Research Artist
For this shoot, I was inspired by Suren Manvelyan because I liked the way he would lights to add an extra element of interest and draw the viewer in more. Also, I like how he made his photos seem slightly more magical by adding them into the background.

I like this photo because I was able to create a leading line from the edge of the frame going towards the glass vase using lights. This helps drag the viewers' eyes through the whole image and finally ends up at the to jar. I like this photo because it has a magical sensation to it by the lights seeming like fairies leading you towards this wonderland. Additionally, I like this affect because this could suggest how someone might follow this path towards their dreams, due to the magical atmosphere.
I like this photo because I have zoomed in close to the glass vase so you are able to see the heart more clearly. I like that I have done this because the lights have lit up the vase so you are able to see the texture and pattern of the heart which adds an additional element on interest that helps draw in the viewer more. Also, I like how I have zoomed in more because you can see all of the details in the glass and the lights, making some areas look slightly fragile, could represent how some people may not truly believe in their dreams and that thought process in portrayed on the glass.
I like this photo because the lights around the edge helps fill in the negative space around the vase like in other photos. Also, I like how one of the lights was close to the lens because it helps add another layer to the photo that the viewer has to look through. The lights that fill up the negative space kind of creates a leading line like the photo earlier creating a slight line, however it is not as clear compared to the photo earlier.
I like this photo because the viewer is able to truly focus on the glass vase and the lights inside instead of being distracted by other elements. I like this photo because once again it has a sense of magic to it and seems like a bottle filled with dreams and could suggest that the individual has so many dreams and goals that the bottle has started to overfill.
Worst Images
I don't like this photo because I had my aperture set too high therefore, the lights overpowered the whole image because it was overexposed. Also, due to the photo being overexposed, you are unable to see any details of the heart on the vase which was the main purpose of this photo particularly, therefore, making this photo unsuccessful.
I don't like this photo because again the photo is overexposed and the lights overpower the whole image. Also, I don't like this photo because the way the lights are positioned on the side of the vase makes the photo look slightly weird and unbalanced because in my opinion there should be a few more lights above the vase to help fill the empty space.
I don't like this photo because again it is overexposed and you are unable to see anything apart from the lights being blurred together as one. Also, I don't like this photo because I accidentally knocked over my tripod while taking this photo so it made the image extremely blurry and you are unable to make out the shape of the vase clearly, making this photo completely unsuccessful.
AO1 - This shoot was inspired by Suren Manvelyan but I this time I wanted to put my own twist on it. As I have stated in previous shoots, I like his photoshoot with the fairy lights in the background because it creates a sense of magic and peacefulness. I wanted to do something similar again but I wanted to make the fairy lights the main object in all of the photos for this shoot. To make the photos seem more interesting I used a class vase to create the illusion of bottled dreams.
AO2 - For this shoot, I used my Canon 600D and set my ISO to 400, shutter speed to 1/100 and my aperture to f5.6 because I found this gave me the correct exposure to be able to see all of the lights clearly. However, I did accidentally set my aperture to f8 when I fist started the shoot and didn't realise until part way through, hence why my first few photos are overly exposed. Once again, I used a small studio set up with a dark back drop to it would create a stronger contrast with the lights. I also used a tripod so I could focus more on the positioning of the lights and jar and know that my camera would already be set up and stay the same throughout the whole shoot.
AO3 - My idea for recording Artificial Light was to take photos of fairy lights in a vase to present the meaning of bottled dreams. Instead of of my previous shoots I've done, I wanted the fairy lights to be the main focus of the photos and the vase just as an extra element of interest. In my opinion, I feel that I have been able to achieve this appearance in the photo where I have created a leading line using the lights towards the vase where majority of the lights are (Best Image 1) and by doing this I was able to create the illusion of the viewer following the right path to reach their dreams. Also, I feel that I have been able to achieve this in the photo where I took a close up photo of the vase and lights (Best Image 2) because I feel as I have captured the deeper meaning of how dreams are fragile as you can see the scratches on the vase.
AO4 - I feel as if I have produced a strong series of images because I have been able to portray Artificial Light in a way that might intrigue the viewer by being drawn in through the deeper meanings of the images. Through these images, I was able to present the idea of bottled dreams and how one individual can have many dreams and goals they want to achieve but might be hard to attain them. I helped emphasise this message through the use of leading lines, trying to show the viewer that you need to find that one good path that can unlock everything that they wish.
Manipulating My Images
For this project, I didn't want to heavily edit my photos because I wanted the main focus to be on the artificial lighting. Therefore I used settings such as vibrance, curves, contrast and levels to help emphasise the lighting more to make them stand out further to the viewer and drawing them in more. Also, I used burn and dodging in some areas of the photos to exaggerate some highlighted and shadowed areas so it would create more of a contrast and an extra element of interest.
